City Cloud was the first Scandinavian cloud computing service to compete with Amazon EC2 already in 2009. City Cloud has continuously improved and with its 500 corporate customers it is one of the leading cloud computing services in Europe. Today City Cloud got yet another confirmation on the affect it is having on companies in Europe. The leading European cloud organization EuroCloud nominated City Cloud as one of the three best cloud services in Sweden.

EuroCloud is an organization which is present all over Europe. The Swedish section is arranging the first large cloud awards in Sweden using four cloud categories. Those are: ”Best cloud service”, ”Best Startup” and ”Best case study both in public and private sector”.

City Cloud is nominated as one of the best three in the nation in the category “Best cloud service 2011”. EuroCloud defines the category as follows: “This relatively open category is about services that creates a high adaptation for cloud utilization and increase the mindshare of cloud services in general. The service should clearly be characterized by great connectivity and compatibility in line with EU/EC guidelines. Excellent data security and redundancy is a must.

– We are thrilled to receive this recognition for a service we have put tremendous effort into growing and creating. In 2009, when we started, very few companies in Europe were using infrastructure as a service. Today we see a different attitude and it is more about when rather than if. City Network has long been one of the companies that have been an advocate about what Europe can do and benefit from the cloud as a whole. I think 2011 is the year when Europe moves in a much broader scale than before, said Chariman Johan Christenson.

– I see infrastructure as a service as well as the broader cloud services as a great possible industry in Europe. Over 90% of the revenue from infrastructure as a service will go to the US this year and that means Europe has some catching up to do. More engagement and education is a must to show what companies can do with these very important services and how they can improve not just cost wise but more importantly how they improve innovation. Organizations like EuroCloud is a part of helping Europe in this transition and we thank them for both recognizing City Cloud but also helping Europe get into the game of cloud services in a serious way, said Christenson.

The 24th of May is the day when the winner is announced in Stockholm, Sweden. You can find more about EuroCloud here and the Swedish section here The Swedish version of City Cloud can be found here.
